Once in a while, you come across amazing – and that is how I would describe this mom and son.  You see, ever since I have known Tammy, she’s always bright, always smiling and looking for the silver lining in every rain cloud.  You’d never know that Tammy has seen some dark hours, pacing the hallways of Sick Kids Hospital as her pride and joy –  seven year old Jackson has had brain surgery nine times in his short life.  Jackson was diagnosed with hydrocephalus about four years ago. This is a condition where there is a build up of cerebral spinal fluid in the brain and is treated by surgically implanting a shunt to drain excess fluid.

Imagine yourself in her shoes and thinking if your child had to undergo nine brain surgeries.  It’s unfathomable and I have the deepest empathy for her.  As I was working on her gallery, I came across this quote, ” Sometimes the things we cannot change, end up changing us.”  I suspect for Tammy and Jackson, it has given them a deeper sense of gratitude for life and for each other.  For me – it makes me realize so many things, one of which is that I am grateful to know both of them and that I can learn from their strength and courage.   Love you guys!  Enjoy looking at these celebrations of your love!

What does every parent/grandparent want for Christmas?

The answer is family.  This photo shoot was a Christmas gift and I was so honoured to be a part of it.
It was a tad chilly but everyone was so gracious with their time and smiles.  I hope that this wonderful family treasures these memories for years to come.   So happy I was a part of it.

Enjoy the sneak peeks.

Married for 50 years this May.  Isn’t that incredible?

Cheers.  Hot chocolate and marshmallows. Yum.

Probably my favourite shot of the lot.

You know how some people just ooze coolness? Well, I have been a long time FB fan of May I Be Excused, My Brain is Full – Olivia’s Asperger’s Story. The past year or so, I have been watching Olivia grow up as her mom shares her story .. and not only have I been inspired, but I have been in total awe of just how cool Olivia is.
She is authentic, a trait that is a personal admiration of mine. I reached out to her mom and hinted that if she’d ever consider a photo shoot with me, I’d love to capture that ‘authenticity.’
Olivia’s mom surprised her with a photo shoot last Christmas, and almost a year later, we did the shoot. I met with Olivia beforehand to ask her what she wanted/didn’t want out of the shoot. Her only request was that she really didn’t want to smile for the photos.  So I let this shoot evolve as we both felt it should go – and Olivia totally rocked it.

Enjoy her sneak peek gallery.  I’d love to know which is your favourite photo in the comments section below.
