Drum roll please….. this post is one of triumph, celebration, love and strength.
Two years ago, a family friend Jeanette announced that she had breast cancer. Devastated with this news, I wanted to do something to try and help. After explaining my BELIEVE sessions, I was hoping that Jeanette might decide to do it. By documenting the start of her journey back-to-health (with pictures), she could look back one day, and realize just ‘how far’ she has come.
Well, I am elated to say, that DAY HAS COME! Almost two years to the day, Jeanette has come through the other side and has a clean bill of health. The best part was that she contacted me to book the photo shoot. Not only has she conquered cancer, but has also conquered her fear of ‘being able to tell her story’, and I am so proud of her. Although she is celebrating good health, I could see her struggling through the shoot occasionally welling up with tears. This time the tears were of celebration, happiness, joy and triumph. Once we finished the shoot, I asked Jeanette what had she learned from this experience. Her answer? One word. Strength.
Jeanette shares, “After I had some time to settle with the news, I wanted to take control over the things I did have control over, like diet and attitude. I wanted to do my best to make positive choices every day. Stacey, those ‘first session’ pictures were so hard for me, but I am so grateful to have them now. I look at the person I was then, and I am a different person now. I realize now that what I didn’t think I could do… I did. I am stronger now, and if I had to do it all over again, I would; because I like the person I am now – today. I have learned so much about the world and myself.”
Wow, those are some pretty profound thoughts. I am so grateful that you have shared your story Jeanette. Perhaps someone will stumble across this post and be exactly where you were two years ago – and you will give hope to him/her. Thank you for opening up your soul, your picture story. You are an inspiration to me!
Celebrate HOPE. Celebrate HEALTH. Celebrate happiness… you made it!!! (and I knew you would xo) Love you.
